Cost and quoting
How is a ductwork job priced?
Per project, quoted from a survey. The figure follows the route the ductwork has to take, the duct sizes the space needs and the components that go into it. Component rates are published on the pricing page so the build-up can be checked.
What happens if the work changes once it has started?
We stop and confirm it with you before anything is cut. A change of route or a component that turns out to be needed is agreed first, not added to the bill afterwards.
Are there cheaper ways to get the same result?
Sometimes — a different route or standard sizes can reduce the material. If there is a cheaper way to do the job properly we will say so at survey rather than quote the more involved version.
Do you charge for the survey?
The survey is how the job gets quoted, so it is part of quoting the work rather than a separate charge.
Installation and what to expect
Do you work on homes or only commercial premises?
Both. Ductwork and ventilation for homes and small commercial premises, on new installations, replacements and existing systems alike.
Can a building stay in use during the work?
Usually. Runs are worked in sections and each area is handed back as it is finished, so a property can stay occupied.
How long will the work take?
It depends on the size of the system and what the structure allows. The sequence is set out at survey so you know what happens in what order, rather than a duration promised before the space has been seen.
What about dust and noise while you are working?
Duct and fittings are cut to size before they go in wherever possible, and the working area is kept separate from the rest of the property. What cannot be avoided is discussed with you at survey.
Can you swap just one section of duct rather than the whole run?
Often, yes. Once the duct is open we can see how far the corrosion or damage goes, and we tell you before replacing more than needs replacing.
Checks, records and coming back
How do I know the airflow is right when the job is finished?
Because it is measured. Airflow is checked at every terminal and the dampers are set until the system runs as designed, with the plant running, before the work is handed over.
What if something is not right after you have gone?
Tell us and we will come back to it. If a run has to be altered, the change is agreed with you before it is made.
Do I get drawings or a record of the installation?
You get the quote with the route, sizes and components set out against it, and the readings taken at the terminals when the system was set. Ask at survey if you need anything specific for a building record.
Can you check a system somebody else installed?
Yes. The method is the same regardless of who put the ductwork in, and the readings are taken at the terminals where any difference shows.
